Better Knife Skills
Cathy Walters & David Marks, Instructors
Knowing how to use a good sharp chef's knife is one of the most important and useful skills in the kitchen. And where better to learn it than in a knife shop! Stoddard's is the fifth oldest business in Boston and America's oldest cutlery shop. This hands-on class is designed to help you become a faster, more efficient cook. We won't debone a chicken or make fancy garnishes, but we will review techniques, practice different cutting methods such a julienne, chiffonade, and others. As part of this one-night course, our knife expert, David Marks, co-owner of Stoddard's Cutlery, will explain the differences between various types of knives and give a brief demonstration of knife sharpening and care. Learn on-site, where you can try all the different kinds of kitchen knives available. A $7 materials fee is included in the tuition. Class meets at Stoddard's Cutlery, 360 Watertown St., Newton.
